Thoughts, Ideas, and Dreams

“It's really absurd to make... a human image, with paint, today, when you think about it... But then all of a sudden, it was even more absurd not to do it.” Willem de Kooning

This body of work reflects upon experiences in my life from the past decade and emotions those memories generate. Narratives range from cathartic expressions of pain and loss to delightful romps through carefree summer days. Subjects illuminate the challenges and rewards of fatherhood, being an old white guy, nothingness, and finding one’s way through the mundane and extraordinary of life.

My process mirrors the perpetual chaos and order life bestows upon us through the layering of time. A lusty love affair with color and its expressive potential permeates through labor. Creativity is commissioned as a scheme to exact the collective. I believe the similarities we share as humans dwarf the disparity that is too often emphasized and I’d love the opportunity to speak with you regarding your life, I bet we have a lot in common.

Long story short I paint about the slop in the bottom of the fishing bucket.
